These words capture me as a person and a professional. I’m passionate about learning, which has led me to taking an herbalism course, enrolling in American Sign Language classes, and starting to ski at 25. I‘ve always loved to read and write, so pursuing communications seemed natural. I’ve taken on projects like editing an independently published poetry book and working as a wardrobe assistant on a local film. And I’ve volunteered in every place I’ve lived, from western Pennsylvania to my second home in Syracuse, and even while abroad in Italy and Poland.
As a communications professional, curiosity means learning about the elements of the project (i.e. who, what, where, when, why). Creativity is the process. The how. It’s brainstorming, developing, and implementing solutions. Then I think of community as who is engaged in the process, as well as impacted by the project. A meaningful example was working for the City of Syracuse as the census coordinator for the 2020 Census. I partnered with more than 100 stakeholders on a yearlong communications and outreach campaign. It included pop-ups, trainings, digital and print collateral, billboards, PSAs, presentations, etc. It resulted in Syracuse’s first population increase since the 1950 Census.
